What happens when an officer has no signal

The app keeps working underground and in stairwells. Here is what saves, what waits, and what genuinely needs a connection.

3 MIN READ

Officers work in car parks, plant rooms and stairwells. The app is built for that.

What keeps working with no signal

These save on the phone the moment the officer taps, and upload when service returns. The screen updates straight away, so nobody stands in a stairwell waiting for a spinner.

The time recorded is the time it happened on the phone, not the time it uploaded. A scan at 2:14am stays 2:14am.

  • Clocking in and out
  • Changing status
  • Scanning checkpoints
  • Logging activity notes

What needs a connection

Officers usually write reports at the end of a shift rather than in the middle of an incident, so this is rarely a problem in practice. If it is, step outside and it will go through.

  • Writing an incident report, because of the photographs
  • Seeing new incidents from dispatch
  • Messages from the office

How to tell it is working

The app shows a small count of items waiting to upload. It clears itself when service returns. If it is not clearing after the officer is back in coverage, close and reopen the app.

Nothing is lost while waiting. An officer can finish a whole shift underground and everything arrives once they are back in signal.
