How location tracking works, and when it is off

Officer location is collected only during a shift. What that means in practice, for you and for your officers.

3 MIN READ

Apeiron CAD collects an officer's location only while that officer is clocked in. It stops the moment they clock out. This is not a setting you or we can change.

Why it works this way

Knowing an officer patrolled the site is reasonable. Knowing where they live is not.

There is a practical reason too. Officers talk, and an app with a reputation for following people home gets left in a locker or has its permissions switched off. Then you have no coverage data at all. The promise protects your records as much as their privacy.

What you can tell your officers

  • Location is shared only between clock-in and clock-out
  • It stops immediately at clock-out, not at the end of the day
  • The app asks permission in plain language before the phone's own prompt
  • Location history is deleted after a limited period rather than kept forever

What your clients see

Nothing about individual officers. Clients see that a site was covered and what happened there. They never see a named person's position, current or historical.
